چکیده

We study the resonant enhancement of linear and nonlinear chiroptical effects in planar silicon metasurfaces with an in-plane asymmetry supporting multipolar Mie resonances quasi-bound states continuum (quasi-BICs). demonstrate theoretically observe experiment pronounced circular dichroism at quasi-BIC originating from interaction modes substrate. further find that both local field third-harmonic signal are large for some due to critical coupling. experimentally a strong response associated high efficiency generation varying +0.918 ± 0.049 −0.771 0.004 samples different asymmetries. reveal nonreciprocal nature chirality governed by microscopic symmetry nonlinearities macroscopic symmetries meta-atom metasurface lattice. believe our results suggest general strategy engineering dielectric metasurfaces.

Resonant nonlinear dielectric response in a photonic band gap material.

We study the dielectric response of impurity two-level atoms in a photonic band gap (PBG) to an applied laser field. In this system, the atoms may exchange energy coherently by resonance dipoledipole interaction (RDDI) which is assumed to be strong compared to the spontaneous emission rate. When the applied Rabi frequency exceeds the RDDI energy scale, nonlinear saturation of the absorptive par...

Generalized Brewster effect in dielectric metasurfaces

Polarization is a key property defining the state of light. It was discovered by Brewster, while studying light reflected from materials at different angles. This led to the first polarizers, based on Brewster's effect. Now, one of the trends in photonics is the study of miniaturized devices exhibiting similar, or improved, functionalities compared with bulk optical elements. In this work, it i...

Resonant laser printing of structural colors on high-index dielectric metasurfaces

Man-made structural colors, which originate from resonant interactions between visible light and manufactured nanostructures, are emerging as a solution for ink-free color printing. We show that non-iridescent structural colors can be conveniently produced by nanostructures made from high-index dielectric materials. Compared to plasmonic analogs, color surfaces with high-index dielectrics, such...

Resonant nonlinear magneto-optical effects in atoms∗

In this article, we review the history, current status, physical mechanisms, experimental methods, and applications of nonlinear magneto-optical effects in atomic vapors. We begin by describing the pioneering work of Macaluso and Corbino over a century ago on linear magneto-optical effects (in which the properties of the medium do not depend on the light power) in the vicinity of atomic resonan...

Wave manipulation with designer dielectric metasurfaces.

The concept of an ultra-thin metasurface made of single layer of only-dielectric disks for successful phase control over a full range is demonstrated. Conduction loss is avoided compared to its plasmonic counterpart. The interaction of the Mie resonances of the first two modes of the dielectric particles, magnetic and electric dipoles, is tailored by the dimensions of the disks, providing requi...
